Every season brings adventure and new possibilities. So what is the average temperature throughout each major season? Does it get cold at night during the summer? Can you swim in the water year-round?

Summer

It’s summertime! You can’t escape the sun- and you probably wouldn’t want to for long! Anna Maria Island gets many summertime visitors who escape to the island for some time on its acclaimed beaches. Summer average temperatures escalate to the low 90’s, with nice dips into the mid-’80s. But this is a much lower than many interior locations in Florida, like Orlando, which can boast day-after-day around 100 degrees.

The summer heat can be challenging, but thankfully the wispy gulf breeze keeps things comparably cooler on Anna Maria Island. There are also many summer events, so you want to leave room for souvenirs and take-home goodies.

The water temperature can also reach the high-70’s making summertime perhaps the warmest and welcoming time to hit those calming Gulf of Mexico waves.

For clothing, what should you pack for a summer in Florida? Some would argue hardly anything! Aside from a bathing suit, you should have a pair of shorts or two. Anything flannel may be a nightmare. Pack light and thin, with one heavier outfit for a potential rainy afternoon. Even then, the summer showers are warm and even refreshing.

Fall

It is fall time, and possibly one of the best times to visit one of our Anna Maria Island condo rentals. The fall is just stunning. Average temperatures remain right around the low 80’s for the duration of the season. It gets coolest towards the end of October, where 75-80 is common. You should certainly pack at least one of either long pants or a thin jacket.

Winter

The winter is amazing. The island attracts northern visitors for a winter retreat every year. The winter typically averages in the low 70’s. 80 degrees has been reported on Anna Maria Island as late as early December, and the incredible 70-degree weather typically continues into March. It is a fantastic time to bring your pet because the cool air will keep her excited and frisky. We have Anna Maria pet-friendly rentals available for any guest apt to bring their dog along.

While you can easily walk around outside with a light jacket at most, many of our guests ask about the water temperatures during the winter. The reality is that the gulf water is probably a tad too cold during the season for most visitors. It is not uncommon for the water temperature to hover around a nice brisk 65 to 70 degrees.

Thankfully, we added heated pools for our vacation rentals on Anna Maria Island. You can relax in the pool in the dead-center of January, and not worry about trying to fight 65 degrees. The pools are set in the ’70s, and they make for a fantastic and relaxing experience.

Spring

Spring is beach season. The temperature remains a lovely 82 to 89 degrees for the whole season. Sprinklings of rain may come down for minutes at a time, but it is rarely a major issue. You want to pack some rain-ready clothing, such as a non-cotton jacket. You may not need to bring an umbrella because its cumbersome. You can always find an affordable umbrella at one of the local beach shops.

Spring is also the best season for shelling. The season draws so many natural treats up through the waves and onto shore.
