Located on the Sarasota waterfront, Van Wezel offers a diverse array of entertainment. From Broadway plays to modern dance companies, comedians to world-class symphonies, Van Wezel has it all! The 1,736 seat auditorium is owned and operated by the city of Sarasota. It originally opened its doors in 1970 and has been entertaining audiences for the last 44 years. The Roskamp Auditorium was renovated in 2001 thanks to a generous donation of $1,000,000 from Sarasota residents Bob and Diane Roskamp.
The Grand Foyer is 6,000 square feet and opens up to the Terrace and Bayfront lawn. Planning a special event? The Grand Foyer seats up to 350 people and the Terrace and Bayfront lawn can accommodate an additional 1,500.
Guided tours offer a look behind the scenes. See the system of ropes, pulleys, and flys for creating scenery and special effects. Visit the moveable orchestra pit, dressing rooms, and practice halls. Walk through a gallery of Florida’s most renowned artists. The Fine Arts Society has a permanent exhibit at Van Wezel featuring paintings and sculptures.
Tours are offered to the public the first Tuesday of the month, October through May. Tours begin at 10:00 a.m. in the Main Lobby of the Van Wezel and cost $5 per person. Tickets can be purchased at the Box Office or by calling 941-953-3368. Proceeds benefit the Van Wezel’s Education / Outreach Programs, Community Engagement and the Fine Arts Society.
