Anna Maria Island sunsets are legendary and truly stunning, as there are few other places where you’ll get to see vibrant and colorful sunsets in a natural unobstructed ocean setting. Several areas on the island offer excellent views of the sun as it sets.
If you plan on visiting Anna Maria Island and want to get the experience for yourself, below are a few of the best ways to do it:
The Sandbar Restaurant located at 100 Spring Ave is one of the few on Anna Maria Island that offers the perfect view and seating for a gorgeous sunset view. As a matter of fact, the restaurant is quite well known for its sunset viewing experience and you’ll find that it is often booked around sunset time. So, be sure that you call ahead for reservations before heading over. Let them know that you want a great seat to watch the sun set and they’ll take care of you, and best of all their seafood is some of the best on the island along with some very good happy hour specials.
The Rod and Reel Pier Restaurant is another top option for sunset viewing with its affordable seafood entrees and great vantage point. This pier is located at 875 N Shore Drive on the northern end of Anna Maria Island, and it’s easy to walk to if you’re visiting the nearby historic City Pier. Most regulars love the food at this unique establishment, and you’ll also get some amazing views of the Skyway Bridge. Friendly local fishermen will be fishing right off the pier and will probably strike up a conversation with you as you pass. You can trust that the service and food will be excellent and you’ll leave without much of a dent in your pocket!
Book a sunset cruise for a memorable experience
Booking a sunset cruise is a sure way to get the sunset viewing experience of a lifetime, and there are multiple local companies that offer these cruises for excellent rates. Many of them allow alcohol to be served on the boat so that you can sip a glass of wine or a beer while you enjoy an extraordinary unblocked view of the sun setting on the Gulf. The local tour operators are also very familiar with the waters around Anna Maria Island and often venture out into other parts for some opportunities to take truly incredible photos of the scenery and local wildlife.
Bean Point is widely considered to be a “must visit” attraction whether you plan on going for the sunset views or just for hiking, beach relaxation and wildlife viewing. This scenic part of the island is located on the former estate of the island’s founder, George Emerson Bean, and here you’ll be able to relax and enjoy the sun setting without large crowds or structures in your way. Bean Point is located on the northern end of the island and there is no direct parking or access. One entrance is located near the crossroads of North Shore Drive and North Bay Blvd, or there are two others at the corner of Fern Street or Gladiolus Street and North Shore Drive.
